Trump Says ‘Some Guy or Woman’ Will ‘Take Credit’ For His Achievements After 2028 Election: ‘Remember I Did It’

“Some guy or woman” will take credit for President Donald Trump’s achievements in office after they’re elected, the president told attendees during a speech in Michigan today, a rare concession to the possibility he will not circumvent the Twenty-Second Amendment.

Trump listed some of those achievements. “They have this term, so here I am. I am one day in office, and the fake news goes, ‘Affordability. Affordability.’ I said, ‘What’s affordability? What’s that all about?’ ‘Prices are too high.’ I’ve been here for less than 24 hours, but we brought down prices last week. It was announced that inflation has gone down faster than at any time in the last six years,” he said.

“When the fuel comes down, which it did for a little while, then they didn’t behave and I had to go back, and now they are behaving again. It’s like playing a banjo,” he continued. “But every day, we are fighting to put more money in your pockets and that’s what we are doing and we are doing it better than anyone,” the president continued.

“At the same time, we’re making this country safe because we are not going to let lunatics have—we won’t let lunatics have a nuclear weapon. You want to see disruption? You want to see some disruption? But with the help of our Republican majorities in Congress, I proudly signed the largest tax cuts in American history for the second time because in my first term we had the greatest economy in the history of our country.”

He added, “We got hit with Covid at the end, and we did a great job in that. Operation Warp Speed and the whole thing, we did a great job. Didn’t get credit, but that’s okay. We had the greatest economy in the history of the country, and we are blowing it away this time. You’re going to see the results very soon. I’m a little bit upset, because in two and a half years you may have a different president. May. And that president will be saying how great the economy is doing, look at all the jobs. He didn’t — we have more factories being built than at any time in our country’s history. They are all going to be opening now or soon and I got some guy or woman who is going to take credit for that. Will you please remember that I did it, okay? I did it.”

The president has often claimed inflation has fallen during his second term in office; in June, the consumer price index indicated inflation remained at an elevated annual rate of 2.7% last year. Last week PBS reported Americans experienced the “largest monthly drop” in inflation in four years, but noted the price per unit being paid has not fallen.

Trump has also repeatedly insisted his One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB) delivered the largest tax cuts to Americans in the country’s history. In reality, the OBBB gave Americans the sixth-largest tax cuts.

This month, the Center for Economic and Policy Research published a report that states there has been “zero evidence” to support the president’s claim of a factory boom.
