Dr. Anthony Fauci enjoyed a “relaxed” dinner at home with CNN star Jake Tapper and his wife, one week after suggesting Americans “sacrifice” getting together with family and friends at Thanksgiving, according to newly released 2020 diary entries.

Fauci’s diary notes were published on Saturday by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). The man who spearheaded the U.S. Government’s response to COVID-19 wrote about having multiple dinners with Tapper in 2020, alongside notes on the rising death toll.

He wrote about one of those shared suppers on October 23, 2020.

“Had dinner at my home with Jake and Jennifer Tapper,” Fauci jotted down. “Relaxed, good time.”

Fauci added, “Jake clearly believes that Trump is totally nuts.”

The diary entry came nine days after Fauci said Americans would be better off ditching their Thanksgiving plans.

“You may have to bite the bullet and sacrifice that social gathering, unless you’re pretty certain that the people that you’re dealing with are not infected,” Fauci told CBS News at the time.

Fauci previously wrote on July 1, 2020 he “had dinner over at Jake Tapper and Jen Tapper’s home in DC.” He said they were a “terrific couple” and the meal was “friendship building.”

Tapper also snickered about other cable news hosts to Fauci. The doctor wrote that after he appeared on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show in April 2020, Tapper texted him, “Hard to beliee [sic] Paura [sic] Ingraham went to Dartmouth, isn’t it. All of us alumni are very proud.”

Later that month, Fauci wrote about an appearance Dr. Deborah Birx — who was the White House Coronavirus Task Force coordinator at the time — made on Tapper’s show:

Deb was on CNN with Jake Tapper and did not answer the question of whether it was a mistake for the POTUS to talk about injecting or swallowing bleach. Jake wrote me a text afterwards and said: “Birx has lost her way I fear. She has chosen to focus on defending the president and attacking the press. Odd.”

And in yet another April 2020 diary entry, Fauci wrote Tapper called him after an appearance on CNN.

“Jake wanted to make sure the interview did not cause me any problems,” Fauci wrote.

Beyond his ties to Tapper, the unearthed diary notes showed Fauci watched like a hawk how mainstream outlets like the Washington Post and The New York Times covered him during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fauci at one point speculated he had become “the most famous and talked about person” in America, thanks to the press “going wild with me.”
