‘MEH-HE-HO!’ Trump Goes On Wacky Tangent About How to Pronounce Mexico

President Donald Trump took a quick detour during a Monday speech to quip about his recent attempt to pronounce “Mexico” like a native Spanish speaker — except something got lost in translation.

Trump made the tangent while speaking to a crowd at the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan.

“I’m very proud of General Motors. For years you watched companies move production from America down to Mexico” – which Trump pronounced as “MEH-HE-HO.” He then said it again, “MEH-HE-HO.”

Trump said he picked up the pronunciation from the “very nice” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum. He said she pronounces it “beautifully” when she says “MEH-HE-HO”… but the problem is native Mexicans don’t pronounce it like that.

Instead, Mexicans go with “MEH-HE-KO.” And that might explain what Trump told the crowd next.

“I said to a group the other day, ‘And we will stop all business going to MEH-HE-HO,’ and they didn’t know what the hell I was talking [about],” Trump said. “It did not come out as well.”

The president’s little joke came a few minutes after be bragged about bringing more auto production back to the U.S. He celebrated Toyota recently announcing it would ditch a plant in Mexico and move it to Texas, and boasted there is not one Chinese car in the U.S. thanks to his tariffs.

Trump also patted himself on the back for doing much more for the American auto industry than ex-President Ronald Reagan.

“Ever since the presidency of the late, great Ronald Reagan — who in all fairness, who I liked — but he did allow our cars to disappear into Japan and other locations. We cannot do it,” Trump said, “We love him! But on trade, Trump is much better. Much better.”

The comment drew some cheers from the crowd.

Things got a bit heavier when a protester yelled out he was a “pedophile protecter.” Trump responded by calling the heckler a “communist.”
