Turkish Lawmaker Has Heart Attack Immediately After Declaring Israel Will Endure ‘The Wrath of Allah’
A Turkish member of parliament claimed Israel will not “escape the wrath of Allah” in a fiery speech on Tuesday before suffering a heart attack and crumpling to the floor.
Fifty-three-year-old conservative MP Hasan Bitmez was seen on the parliament’s livestream as he collapsed behind the podium and his head hit the floor. He is said to be hospitalized in “extremely serious and critical condition.”
Bitmez denounced Israel’s war against Hamas during a meeting of the Turkish parliament’s General Assembly. He ended his speech by admonishing Israel, “You will not escape the wrath of Allah” before then telling colleagues, “I salute you all,” before immediately hitting the ground.
Members of the assembly can be seen running to his aid.
Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had been mending ties with Israel in the lead-up to the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks before fully embracing Hamas’ side in the war, according to The Times of Israel. He has denied that Hamas is a terrorist organization. The Times reported:
Erdogan warned Israel last week that it would “pay a very heavy price” if it attempted to eliminate Hamas members in Turkey, several days after recordings were revealed of the head of the Shin Bet security agency saying Jerusalem is determined to kill group leaders “in every location” around the world, including “in Lebanon, in Turkey, in Qatar.”
Turkey recalled its ambassador to Israel in November.
