A Texas cop heroically sprang into action to save a woman from her burning car last month, resulting in shocking bodycam footage that has now gone viral.
The incident occurred just after midnight on September 30, when Officer Tyler Ingram was driving on Interstate 30.
“We answer a lot of action-packed calls here, but this was more like a movie scene,” Ingram told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth.
The Mesquite officer was policing traffic when he heard a crash and went to investigate.
“As I got closer, I could hear a female screaming inside,” he said. “When I was at the driver’s door, the flames were starting to crawl from the front to the passenger compartment.”
In the shocking video of the event, flames can be seen billowing from the rear of the woman’s car while she sobs in distress. Ingram rushed to the driver’s side door, attempting to pull the woman to safety.
“Come here, come here, come here,” he yelled, before asking the woman if her leg was stuck.
“No, I’m just in pain,” she said.
Ingram and two other officers help the woman to the side of the highway and out of harm’s way.
The woman, whose name has not been released, was later charged with driving while intoxicated. She is expected to make a full recovery.
“Drinking and driving do not mix. One decision can lead to tragedy in seconds,” wrote the Mesquite Police Department in a statement. “We’re thankful no one else was hurt in this crash, and we urge everyone to make the right choice: Plan a ride, call a friend, or use a rideshare.”
