‘I Have a Lot of Regrets’: Perez Hilton Opened Up to Sean Hannity About His Life Before Horrifying TikTok Stream
Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton — now hospitalized after a terrifying self-harming episode on a TikTok stream — had an eye-opening interview about his “biggest regrets” with Fox Anchor Sean Hannity weeks before the apparent breakdown.
Hilton’s hour-long appearance on Hang Out With Sean Hannity dropped Thursday, which Hannity prefaced with an introduction about Hilton’s hospitalization.
Hannity included an introduction to the episode, which noted the TikTok stream and included a message from Hilton’s “family and team,” noting “they are grateful for the outpouring of support, the many prayers that people have given them.”
The podcast included Hilton explaining why he no longer mocks the physical appearance of celebrities, with Hannity calling Hilton’s past behavior “really personal sh*t” and asking, “Do you do it anymore?”
Hilton said no, then added, “Because I realized what I was doing was wrong. I realized I could still be funny, but I didn’t have to be so cheap, and I didn’t have to be so cruel. It was cruel. It’s something that I carry with me. It’s like my scarlet letter, and it’s very heavy baggage.”
Hilton admitted he was addicted — to “attention.”
“I mean, I have a lot of regrets. It’s hard to have people really accept this, but if you like attention, attention is like a drug. I was definitely an attention addict back then. I mean, I still am, but I think now I do a better job of keeping it in check.
“When you’re an addict, you don’t care if you’re hurting people. You’ll steal from your roommate or do something bad to a family member just
so you can get money to buy your drugs or alcohol, or whatever your addiction is,” he added.
Hannity told him, “Many people lived in fear of you. Like, real panicked fear.”
“And I live with that,” Hilton said.
Later in their chat, Hilton recalled how he made a video for the 2010 It Gets Better campaign, which was aimed at helping stem the number of suicides among LGBTQ youth.
The blogger said he was stunned at the backlash he got, calling it a “big wake-up moment for me” and prompting Hannity to ask, “Did you know in the moment that this is not who you wanted to be when you were doing it?”
“No. I was deluding myself,” Hilton replied. “It was like Jekyll and Hyde. When I was in work mode, it wasn’t me. I was after that attention. It was like, “What can I say to get this…” You know, going back to the Twitter days, ‘What can I say to get that celebrity to respond?'”
He also discussed his battle with sepsis, for which he was hospitalized earlier this year for 21 days. .
“I thought I was going to die,” the blogger said.
“You just… you didn’t know,” Hannity said.
“My body just started breaking down. I had fluid in my lungs. I went into A-fib. My heart issues… Just everything that could go wrong went
wrong,” he said.
