Newt Gingrich Mixes it Up With Gavin Newsom On Trump’s Fake Gaza Condoms Story
Newt Gingrich advised California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) you need to take the good with the bad after Newsom reminded him of President Donald Trump pushing a fake story about condoms being sent to Gaza.
Gingrich joined Newsom on the This Is Gavin Newsom podcast where the governor has talked to a number of Trump allies and MAGA figures, including Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon. Gingrich, who wrote the book Trump’s Triumph, praised the president as the “best anti-liberal politician” of his lifetime.
During a discussion about the work of DOGE, Newsom brought up a debunked claim made by Trump’s White House that $50 million worth of condoms had been sent to Gaza under former President Joe Biden. Newsom told Gingrich he informedTrump to his face the story was false and it didn’t matter.
“I’m just lamenting on the sort of Orwellian notion of $50 million of condoms, which the president reminded me of in the Oval Office, which I told him was not true,” Newsom said.
“There’s a great — [Rainer Maria] Rilke, whose a German poet, once said, ‘if you drive away my demons, will my angels flee also?’ And the challenge with a charismatic leader of Trump’s power is there’s 5 or 10 percent where you go, really? And then there’s this other stuff that is amazing and historic. And you may not be able to separate the two,” Gingrich argued.
“Yeah. Or, yeah, I mean, I may have a different, maybe 90/10 of your 10/20,” Newsom said.

NEWT GINGRICH: You’ll turn out to have at least two patterns. One is more noise than achievement. And the other is that it will have exposed for us a number of things that were going on that are kind of astonishing. And so on the one hand —
GAVIN NEWSOM: Condoms in Gaza? Which, you know, turned out not to be the case. What do you mean?
GINGRICH: Well, for example, it’s pretty clear that I think at least 10% of the UN refugee workers in Gaza were pro-Hamas.
NEWSOM: Okay, that’s separate, that’s separate. I’m just lamenting on the sort of Orwellian notion of $50 million of condoms, which the president reminded me of in the Oval Office, which I told him was not true.
GINGRICH: As a good Californian, I’m sure you fondly remember Reagan.
NEWSOM: By the way, Mr. Speaker, I’m in his office every day as a point of pride.
GINGRICH: Well, that’s right. I mean, right there in the governorship. Well, every once in a while, Reagan would see something in the newspaper, and it would click in his head, and I would repeat it endlessly.
NEWSOM: I see where you’re going.
GINGRICH: There’s a great — [Rainer Maria] Rilke, whose a German poet, once said, ‘if you drive away my demons, will my angels flee also?’ And the challenge with a charismatic leader of Trump’s power is there’s 5 or 10 percent where you go, really? And then there’s this other stuff that is amazing and historic. And you may not be able to separate the two.
NEWSOM: Yeah. Or, yeah, I mean, I may have a different, maybe 90/10 of your 10/20.
