Charlamagne Tells Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries ‘Cut It Out’ Over Trump Oligarchy Concerns: ‘You Can’t Say That!’
Charlamagne Tha God lashed out at Democratic leaders over their concerns about President Donald Trump and the influence of billionaires in politics, calling it “ridiculous.”
On Monday’s edition of The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne told House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to “cut it out” when it comes to complaining about big money in politics, arguing they and others are backed by corporate money.
“I think it’s ridiculous even when they try to say things, you know, all these conversations about oligarchy, oligarchy, oligarchy,” the radio host said to guest Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks, before noting that he has no problem with more progressive politicians like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) raising red flags about money in politics. The pair have been hosting rallies around the country under the banner “Fighting Oligarchy.”
Politico reported in February that Jeffries met with more than 100 Silicon Valley investors in an attempt to “mend fences” after the 2024 election. Schumer also regularly brings in millions from private billionaires through the influential Senate Majority PAC, which is closely associated with the Democratic leader.
Charlamagne argued he doesn’t think it’s possible to take “corporate money” and not be “beholden” to those donors and their needs.
“Bernie and AOC, they can go out there and say ‘fight the oligarchy.’ Hakeem Jeffries, you can’t say that. Okay, like, cut it out,” Charlamagne said.
The radio host added, “We know that you’ve taken so much money from corporate donors. So, it’s just weird to see them, you know, push back against oligarchy now and say, ‘Look at the billionaires controlling Trump.’ It’s like, really? You, Hakeem, really? Chuck Schumer, really?”
