Professional golfer Wyndham Clark has been banned from Oakmont Country Club for damaging his locker after missing the cut at the U.S. Open.
Back in June, Clark made headlines when it was reported that he caused serious damage to the locker room following a missed cut. Shortly after those reports, photo evidence of his actions appeared online. The 31-year-old had struck multiple lockers in the 122-year-old club, causing the doors to cave in.
Clark has since apologized for the outburst, saying he “made a mistake that I deeply regret.”
Oakmont club president John Lynch announced the club’s decision to suspend Clark for the foreseeable future. In a letter obtained by Golf Digest, Lynch also laid out the path for Clark to return:
Several of you have inquired about the situation involving Wyndham Clark and the steps being taken in response to his recent behavior. Following multiple discussions with the USGA and the OCC Board, a decision has been made that Mr. Clark will no longer be permitted on OCC property.
“This decision will remain in effect unless formally reconsidered and approved by the Board.
Reinstatement would be contingent upon Mr. Clark fulfilling a number of specific conditions, including full repayment for damages, a meaningful contribution to a charity of the Board’s choosing, and the successful completion of counseling and/or anger management sessions.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
