‘I Stand by That’: Unearthed Clip of Dave Portnoy Defending Rape Joke Goes Viral After Insane ‘Jew Jokes’ Debate With Staffer

An unearthed clip of Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy defending a rape joke began making the rounds online after Portnoy clashed with one of his own staffers over “Jew jokes” in a viral spat.

In Wednesday’s episode of The Unnamed Show, Portnoy and host Kirk Minihane were debating the use of jokes involving Jewish people. While Minihane argued that the jokes were fair game and that the essence of Barstool is that nothing is off limits, Portnoy — who is Jewish — cited recent attacks against Jews to make the case that the jokes cause real-world harm. The exchange quickly turned chaotic as Portnoy repeatedly insulted Minihane and even dared him to quit.

In the aftermath of that shouting match, some social media users were quick to refer to one old clip to point out Portnoy’s inconsistencies on the subject. The clip in question came from a 2012 story from Inside Edition. The story focused on Barstool’s touring “Blackout Parties” that were hosted in multiple college towns across the U.S.

During a sit-down interview, Portnoy was confronted by Lisa Guerrero for joking that the scantily clad women at those parties “deserved” to be raped. Portnoy saw no problem with it:

GUERRERO: You posted the following on your site: “I never condone rape, but if you’re a size 6 and you’re wearing skinny jeans, you kind of deserve to be raped?”

PORTNOY: Correct. I stand by that. I think it’s a funny joke.

GUERRERO: You think rape is funny?

PORTNOY: No, I didn’t say that. I think it’s a funny joke.

GUERRRO: Do you understand how offensive that is?

PORTNOY: No, I obviously don’t.
