Pat McAfee Relieved Aaron Rodgers Will Not Appear on Show for the Rest of the NFL Season After Weeks of Controversy: ‘Not What We Wanna Be Known For’

Pat McAfee announced Wednesday that Aaron Rodgers will not appear on his show for the rest of the NFL season, bringing an end to weeks of unwanted attention.

Since joining ESPN in September, The Pat McAfee Show has been under significant scrutiny for Rodgers’ weekly appearance every Tuesday — dubbed “Aaron Rodgers Tuesday.” The 40-year-old New York Jets quarterback would regularly express his criticisms of the Covid-19 vaccine and former Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci. Rodgers also discussed various conspiracy theories.

Last week, things escalated when Rodgers implied Jimmy Kimmel would be on to-be-released list of clients of late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Kimmel threatened to sue Rodgers and roasted him in a recent monologue, while Rodgers claimed he wasn’t accusing him of anything and accused the media of twisting his words.

With the Jets not making the playoffs, Rodgers’ season is officially over and he won’t return to McAfee’s show until the start of next season. On Wednesday, McAfee expressed relief for that.

“So, Aaron Rodgers Tuesdays, season four, is done,” McAfee said as he and his colleagues started a round of applause. “There are gonna be a lot of people that are happy with that, myself included, to be honest with you. The way it ended, it got real loud. I’m happy that that is not gonna be my [social media] mentions going forward, which is great news.”

As a result of the last few weeks, McAfee added, they gave critics of the show “a lot of ammo.” Now, they intend to return to talking about sports and nothing more.

“Aaron Rodgers is a hall-of-famer,” McAfee said. “He’s a four-time MVP. He’s a massive piece of the NFL’s story. Whenever you go back and tell it, he will be a huge part of it. We are very lucky to get a chance to chat with him and learn from him. Some of this thoughts and opinions, though, do piss off a lot of people.

“I’m pumped that that is no longer gonna be every single Wednesday of my life, which it has been for the last few weeks. On Friday, obviously, I threw us into the fire, as well. Forever stand by that. Everything else, though, just can’t do that and not what we wanna be known for. And I’m also pumped I don’t have to do these types of talks anymore.”
