Trump Sparks Round of Mockery With Comments On Grass: ‘If You’re Grass You’re Very Happy’
President Donald Trump got some people laughing — and some critics upset — with his comments on… grass.
Yeah, the president went fairly viral on Wednesday for praising the turf being added around the new White House helipad while he gave the media an impromptu tour.
“You know, grass has a life like humans have a life,” Trump said. “This has all been redone, it’s all been topsoiled… Lot of good ingredients. If you’re grass, you’re very happy. This grass will look so beautiful.”
He then gave a shoutout to Scotts, which he said donated the grass free of charge. Trump said it was a “great company” and that “somebody” had told him Scotts was the “biggest grass company in the world,” which he found pretty impressive. Trump also copped to the fact Scotts donated to his 2024 campaign — which he said the media would have a field day with if he didn’t admit to it.
“They actually contributed to my campaign, I must be honest,” Trump said. “You’ll figure that one out.”
This wasn’t the first time Trump has talked about grass, which appears to be one of his favorite topics. But the latest round of turf thoughts led to a fair amount of jokes on X, including a few people quipping he sounded like a sensei. You can check out a few below:
And MS NOW’s Katy Tur found the grass moment — along with a few other funky lines Trump delivered — pretty amusing.
“When SNL coming back? What’s their premiere date, you know? Can’t wait,” Tur said, after her show rolled a compilation of Trump-isms from Wednesday.
Meanwhile, California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) press office made a joke about Trump’s Scotts comment. You can be the judge of it below:
While others just seemed angry about it. The Athletic fantasy sports writer Michael Salfino fumed the president was a “f*cking moron,” and The Atlantic writer Charlie Warzel groaned America does not have a “figurehead” who could handle such projects, without having to “suck up a lot of oxygen.” Perhaps he’d like living in England better?
