Alleged Meth User Becomes Tarzan at Orange County Zoo
Kids love going to the zoo to see all the lions, tigers and bears on display, but watching Edgar Rice Burroughs‘s Tarzan character come to life probably was on the to-do list. Never fear, for John William Rodenborn of Santa Ana, California is here to save the day! All he needs is less clothing, more mud and a dose or two of methamphetamines.
Zoo Director Kent Yamaguchi called 911 shortly before 10:30 a.m., saying “we have a gentleman who is — appears to be — under the influence of something and is climbing in our trees and jumping into animal exhibits.” Yamaguchi added, “he’s shouting at people that he’s Tarzan.”
The shirtless, mud-covered man was found mid-morning in the Santa Ana Zoo in Orange County, claiming that he was the character Tarzan. According to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, Rodenborn tried to gain access to a bird exhibit so that he could prove his Tarzan-ness by swinging into the nearby monkey exhibit.
When officers arrested Rodenborn, he was found to be in possession of meth and possibly (i.e. very likely) under its influence.
