Black Journalists Group ‘Concerned’ About CNN
The National Association of Black Journalists this week issued a statement voicing concern about a series of black media professionals who have departed CNN over the course of the last several years.
The statement follows a $5 million wrongful termination lawsuit against CNN filed by a black former employee who claims he was fired for being black. CNN disputes the claim.
Soledad O’Brien, who hosted a morning show at CNN, had her show canceled in 2013. Former CNN contributor Roland Martin departed the network in 2013, a year after he served a temporary suspension for controversial tweets.
The NABJ statement says there are only two black executives at CNN.
“I know CNN is going through layoffs, but the departure of so many African Americans is worrisome,” said NABJ President Bob Butler in the statement, according to The Daily Caller.
