Chris Cillizza Reveals His Tesla Was Vandalized With ‘Musk Is a Nazi’ Sign at Son’s Soccer Tournament

Former CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza hit out at the politicization of everyday life after someone taped a sign that read “Musk is a Nazi” to his Tesla at a soccer tournament over the weekend.

In a new video and post on his Substack, Cillizza described the moment he returned from his son’s soccer match to find the message fixed to his bumper.

“This is the first time I’ve experienced the sort of politics of Elon Musk and Tesla,” he wrote, calling it part of a broader trend where “everything” has become a culture war battleground.

Cillizza, who said he bought the Tesla Model 3 in 2019 or 2020, recalled how the vehicle was once meant “coding yourself as like an enviro-liberal-wacko-communist” and stood as a “reaction against MAGA America.” But five years on, he now finds it branded a symbol of the right.

“Five years ago, my Tesla symbolized everything MAGA world hated. But now it symbolizes everything the left hates?” he asked. “Doesn’t that suggest ascribing meaning to it in the first place was misguided?”

The commentator went on to rail against how products – from EVs to fast food – have become ideological Rorschach tests. He cited reactions to his past visits to Chick-fil-A, where followers accuse him of supporting anti-LGBTQ causes.

“I didn’t eat it because I wanted to send a message to gay people,” Cillizza wrote. “I ate it because it was delicious.”

Critics of figures like Musk argue that patronage amounts to complicity. But Cillizza rejected this framing.

“I am pretty sure Elon Musk and Chick-fil-A are going to be JUST fine whether or not I own a Tesla or buy a #1 meal,” he wrote.

In conclusion, Cillizza warned against what he called “the obsession with making every little bit of our lives into a political statement,” arguing that it’s “making us all crazy” and “driving us further from any sort of recognition of our common humanity.”
