Fox News Hosts Slam Stars Wars For Being Too Woke & ‘Feminist’: ‘That’s Why I’m A Trekkie’
Fox News hosts on Outnumbered bashed Disney for adding the first female and person of color director to lead a Stars Wars movie.
Disney recently hired Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy to direct a Star Wars feature film, angering conservative critics. Obaid-Chinoy added fuel to the fire when she told CNN she’s “very thrilled about the project because I think what we are about to create is something very special. And we’re in 2024 now, and I think it’s about time that we had a woman come forward to shape a story in a galaxy far, far away.”
The Outnumbered panel on Thursday discussed the controversy, claiming that Disney is now “agenda first and movie second.”
“The Star Wars franchise has made over $10.3 billion worldwide. If it isn’t broke, don’t try to fix it,” said Fox News contributor Nicole Saphier. “Anything that she makes with this mentality is going to flop. I’m a mother of three sons. I’ll tell you, it is my sons and my husband who are always wanting to watch Star Wars. If her goal is to make men feel uncomfortable, guess what? They’re not going to watch it. And I’m certainly not going to be the one to pull it up. So just like Captain Marvel, when they try to put these women first agendas into these action movies, they flop.”
Following Obaid-Chinoy’s appointment to the new Star Wars project, an eight-year old clip from the annual Women in the World Summit resurfaced that showed the director telling an audience she “enjoyed” making men feel uncomfortable with her art.
Ben Ferguson claimed that the movie will “be a flop” and that Obaid-Chinoy’s comments are “the reason why people are just walking away from Hollywood.”
She missed her calling, she should have done documentaries on making men feel uncomfortable. That’s where she could have made some cash here. You go into Star Wars, and this is the reason why people are just walking away from Hollywood and just saying, “I’m not going to go see,” it will be a flop. Now, men that know this and watch this are not going to go now watch this movie and go, oh, I can’t wait to go see her make me feel uncomfortable and somehow implying that Star Wars needs to be fixed…Can you imagine if a dude said this on stage like, I love making women feel uncomfortable as I make movies…she does it and it’s like feminism. We’re all good to go.
Emily Compagno finished off the segment by exclaiming, “That’s why I’m a Trekkie and not Star Wars!” before flashing the franchise’s famous Vulcan salute.
