Fox’s David Bossie Tells Democrat Joel Payne ‘You’re Out of Your Cotton-Picking Mind’ About Dog Whistles
On Fox and Friends on Sunday, host Ed Henry spoke with Fox News contributor, former Trump deputy campaign manager, and President of Citizens United David Bossie and Democratic strategist and frequent Fox guest Joel Payne to discuss heated rhetoric on immigration and in general in politics, and ended up with their own very heated rhetoric. Enough so that Ed Henry apologized to the audience.
The entire discussion (watch above, via Fox News) was heated. Bossie came in livid over remarks by Donny Deutsch and ratcheted up from there. It began to reach peak when Bossie waved his hand indicated he was talking to Joel and said, “This guy’s going to whine and cry, and it’s unbelievable. Okay? We’re done with this.”
“You guys, you, the Democratic party are so angry and hate filled towards the border patrol agents, towards police officers, towards I.C.E. Agents. You know what? It is––we’re done with this,” he continued. “The American people recognize what the Democrat party has become. They’ve become Robert de Niro and Peter Fonda, and they’ve become nothing more than angry and hate filled. They hate this president more than they love this country, and it’s dangerous.”
Payne responded and the two went back and forth.
PAYNE: I just love to let people watch. This is the president’s deputy campaign manager. This is the type of hate-filled screed that you saw in 2016.
BOSSIE: This is honesty.
PAYNE: By the way, this is why, by the way, Democrats are going to win this time around.
BOSSIE: Oh, please. You tried this in 2016, and you lost.
HENRY: Let Joel make his point.
PAYNE: What two years of Trumpism looks like, and it looks like Charlottesville, it looks like call judges of Mexican descent not being able to make judicial decisions because they’re of a certain descent. It’s called attacking the Khan family. People have seen what this president’s about, they’ve seen what his agenda is —
And then it went to the final exchange.
Payne said that “you don’t have to be a golden retriever to hear all the dog whistles coming out of the white House these days and from my friend David here.”
Bossie brought up Gen. Michael Hayden, to which Payne replied suggesting Hayden was no liberal and that’s when Bossie came in with his own not subtle dog whistle.
“You’re out of your cotton-picking mind,” he said.
Again, this was after dog whistles had become the topic, leaving little doubt it was intentional.
After telling the guests goodbye and beginning a tease for the next segment, Henry then offered an apology to viewers.
“Obviously we don’t appreciate some of the language back and forth, but we’re going to go to break and we’ll come back on the other side.”
Henry also offered a lengthier comment after the break.

UPDATE: Fox News condemned Bossie’s comments in a statement:
“David Bossie’s comments today were deeply offensive and wholly inappropriate. His remarks do not reflect the sentiments of FOX News and we do not in any way condone them.”
