Fox’s Laura Ingraham Warns Viewers, ‘This Is Going To Be a Brutal Cycle’ for Republicans
Fox News host Laura Ingraham did not mince words about Republicans’ chances in November’s midterm elections, with the GOP poised to lose the House and potentially the Senate.
Republicans narrowly control the House 219-212 and the Senate 53-47. President Donald Trump is historically unpopular, according to several polls, which show his approval rating hovering in the low 30s. Only twice since the end of World War II had an incumbent president’s party gained seats in a midterm election, in 1998 and 2002.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Ingraham Angle, the host shredded Republican consultants, whom she accused of doing a disservice to the candidates who hire them. She said that they should emphasize the leftists in the Democratic Party, including members of the Democratic Socialists of America, some of whom have scored primary victories across the country.
“These consultants drive me nuts,” Ingraham said. “They fly around in private jets. They collect a huge amount of money. And I think they’re lying to these Republican candidates. This is going to be a brutal cycle. Republicans might pull it out. We all hope they do. But they have got to hammer that [Democrats] coming from your money, your gas-powered car, your air conditioner. Everything you love. Your private health insurance. And they’re gonna take it from you, period, end of story. I’m sorry I’m getting mad. I mean, I guess I should be a consultant or something.”
On Tuesday, The Atlantic reported that after meeting with his top political advisers, Trump concluded that the best electoral strategy for Republicans is to make the midterms a referendum on him.
“The president ordered a series of television advertisements about his own record that will serve as a backdrop to the hundreds of individual House and Senate contests,” the publication stated. “Trump wanted what one person described to us as “environmental lift” ads—commercials that would focus on nationalizing the midterms broadly around his victories—and he suggested that the ad makers mine his own on-camera statements as building blocks.”
