Fox’s Peter Doocy Mocks Trump Admin Over Cabinet Group Chat: ‘Well, They Did Promise to Be the Most Transparent White House Ever’

Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy had a quick quip ready when asked about the explosive Trump Cabinet group chat scandal that’s sending shock waves across Washington.

Doocy made the joke at the White House’s expense when asked about the report dropped by The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg by his dad Steve Doocy, and the rest of the Fox & Friends crew.

“Well, they did promise to be the most transparent White House ever,” he said, cracking a smile. “I guess adding a journalist to group chat like that would be consistent with that promise.”

“I don’t think that’s what they meant,” Steve Doocy retorted.

Read the exchange below:

STEVE DOOCY: Hey, Peter, before you go. The number one story everyone is talking about from the White House, and it’s a headline from The New York Post, ‘Trump team accidentally added lefty editor to secret text group planning Yemeni raids.’ What are people saying? Do you have any scoop today?

PETER DOOCY: Well, they did promise to be the most transparent White House ever. I guess adding a journalist to a group chat like that would be consistent with that promise.

STEVE: I don’t think that’s what they meant.

PETER: Right. I have heard that Mike Waltz is telling people that he has no idea how this happened. He has never met Jeffrey Goldberg. He has never spoken to Jeffrey Goldberg. So, if the story is that Jeffrey Goldberg is invited by Michael Waltz to this group that the NSC says is a real chat group. They looked at it. They said this is a thread they think is all legitimate. Pete Hegseth, though, claims that there were no war plans shared. But Mike Waltz says he has no idea how this happened. And he is saying that Signal, the encrypted messaging app, is allowed at various government agencies. And we looked it up. There is guidance for highly targeted individuals to use and to end encrypted software — like free apps Signal, WhatsApp — to try to avoid being hacked.

Goldberg reported on Monday that he learned about a planned bombing of Houthi rebels in Yemen in advance of the strike after national security advisor Mike Waltz accidentally added his number to the chat, which included Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

The Signal chain, named “Houthi PC small group,” reportedly included granular details on targets, weapons, and timing—some of which Hegseth allegedly sent two hours before the March 15 strikes began. Goldberg says he was added on March 13, seemingly without anyone realizing.
