‘I Don’t Want to Live in a Country That Makes T-Shirts’: James Carville Snaps During Town Hall

Democratic consultant James Carville snapped, “I don’t want to live in a country that makes t-shirts,” on Wednesday during a clash with a NewsNation town hall audience member about American manufacturing.

During a debate with an audience member about President Donald Trump’s plan to bring manufacturing back to America, things quickly became heated.

“I have on six items of clothes: shoes, socks, jeans, skivvies, t-shirt, and sweatshirt. You know how many of these were made in America? None! None!” snapped Carville. “And I don’t want to live in a country that makes t-shirts. I can buy them from somewhere else.”

NewsNation town hall co-host Bill O’Reilly questioned, “Wait, wait, wait. You don’t want to live in a country that makes t-shirts?”

“Yeah, we don’t need to do that. We make airplanes, we make movies,” replied Carville. “We drill oil, we make all kinds of things. We don’t need to make t-shirts.”

Former Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel weighed in, “But I do want to live in a country that makes cars.”

“Fine. I drive a Ford Bronco. You think I know where the steering wheel was made? You think I know where the tires were made?” Carville shot back. “No. Do I care? No.”

During the same town hall, O’Reilly came out in support of diversity and inclusion.

“I’m fine with diversity, okay? I agree with Carville on diversity. It’s a strength,” he said. “And I’m fine with inclusion. I think everybody should have an equal pathway to pursue happiness.”
