Jessica Tarlov Roasts Jesse Watters on Trump ‘Masterclass’ Talk: ‘Moody’s Just Downgraded Our Credit’

Fox News co-host Jessica Tarlov had some news for Jesse Watters on Friday’s episode of The Five after he praised President Donald Trump’s Middle East trip as a “masterclass” in leadership.

Tarlov noted that the country’s credit rating had been downgraded during the commercial break.

The show’s producers aired a clip of Trump touting the trip this week as a success.

“All right, Jessica, master class,” Watters said. “It’s not really in dispute. So my question to you is, how big of a master class was this?”

Tarlov responded, “Not in dispute at all. Approval rating bump. That’s real life. I live and die by the polls. But that is directly related to him cleaning up his own tariffs mess.” She concluded:

You know, you saw the CEO from Walmart, I presume, saying that the prices are going to go up. So we’ll wait for that. While we were in the commercial break, Moody’s downgraded our credit for the first time in the agency’s history. So, all good news all around, master class.

Moody’s announcement Friday marked the first time the agency has lowered the U.S. credit rating. Moody’s cited political instability, budget deficits, and concerns over the country’s national debt and dropped the rating from the AAA category to AA1.

The agency said of the downgrade:

Successive US administrations and Congress have failed to agree on measures to reverse the trend of large annual fiscal deficits and growing interest costs. We do not believe that material multi-year reductions in mandatory spending and deficits will result from current fiscal proposals under consideration. Over the next decade, we expect larger deficits as entitlement spending rises while government revenue remains broadly flat.

In turn, persistent, large fiscal deficits will drive the government’s debt and interest burden higher. The US’ fiscal performance is likely to deteriorate relative to its own past and compared to other highly-rated sovereigns.
