Jonathan Lemire Uses Star Wars to Mock Ted Cruz’s Iran Knowledge Gap, Praises Tucker Carlson

Morning Joe co-host Jonathan Lemire praised Tucker Carlson for exposing Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) Iran knowledge gap with a Star Wars-themed analogy, jibing that even Luke Skywalker got briefed on Death Star intel before he committed to attacking it.

During the interview with Cruz for The Tucker Carlson Show, the ex-Fox News host grilled the senator on his hawkish stance on Iran and, in one of several viral clips, grilled him on the population and ethnic makeup of Iran – which Cruz didn’t seem to know anything about.

“You’re a senator who’s calling for the overthrow of the government and you don’t know anything about the country!” Carlson eventually said.

On Thursday’s Morning Joe the crew began by highlighting the interview and host Joe Scarborough offered a mocking historical take.

“Before [former President] Dwight Eisenhower launched the D-Day attacks on on June 6th, 1944, Ike got him on a transatlantic phone call and was actually peppering him with Trivial Pursuit questions about the ethnic makeup of Germany, their population size, and which soccer clubs were having the best seasons over the past three years,” he said.

Lemire, however, then raised Scarborough’s World War II throwback with a Star Wars take more sympathetic to Carlson:

Yes, before Luke Skywalker got in the X-Wing and went after the Death Star run, he was asked how many Imperial troops were on that space station at that time. You have to know these things. You have to know these things. Good for Tucker. Yeah, it was, though, a very contentious interview that did lay out the divide in the MAGA world right now.

Scarborough agreed, continuing to compare Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to the franchise villains: “And I will say for left-wingers watching that, it was kind of like, staying with the Star Wars analogy: Are you for Darth Vader? Are you for Emperor Palpatine?”

Taking a further shot, he added: “And you know, it’s a tough call for a lot of them.”
