MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow Calls Out Own Parent Company Over Trump Demolition Donation
MSNBC host Rachel Maddow slammed parent company Comcast for being among a list of donors to President Donald Trump’s $250 million-plus ballroom in a blistering commentary on the cost of going along with Trump.
Since taking office for a second time, Trump has overseen massive changes to the physical features of the White House, including a gold-drenched Oval Office overhaul, a paved-over lawn in the Rose Garden, and now a major demolition of the entire East Wing to make way for a massive ballroom.
MSNBC was among the outlets that published a long list of donors funding the project, provided by the White House — a list that included Comcast.
On Monday night’s edition of MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, the host opened her show with a trademark marathon commentary on companies that align themselves with Trump in various ways, and the backlash some of them have received, or may soon receive.
But smack in the middle of that opening salvo was a callout of Maddow’s corporate parent (“for another hot minute”) over the donation:
For every Avello Airlines, for every Paul Weiss law firm, and all the other law firms that did corrupt deals with Trump, for ever corporation like our parent company for another hot minute, Comcast, that wants to pay for Trump to take a literal wrecking ball, excuse me, I mean an excavator to the White House.
Those public facing companies should know there’s a cost in terms of their reputation with the American people. There may be a cost to their bottom line when they do things against American values, against the public interest, because they want to please Trump or buy him off or profit somehow from his authoritarian overthrow of our democracy.
Comcast’s spinoff of MSNBC takes effect on Nov. 15, when the network will officially become “MSNOW.”
