NBC’s Jansing on Secret Service’s White House Changes: ‘The Front Door Is Now Locked’

NBC News senior White House correspondent Chris Jansing reported to Joy Reid Monday afternoon on proposed Secret Service reforms in the wake of two White House security breaches. First up: locking the front door.

Jansing, who was present Friday when the fence-jumper made it over, said the penetration of White House by homeless military veteran Omar Gonzalez was unheard of in her time reporting from the White House. Gonzalez made it across the front lawn, into the building and the executive mansion, the first time an intruder has gotten that far.

Jansing said the Secret Service is looking at a variety of failures, including how a sniper didn’t fire and why the hounds were not released. (Release the hounds!)

“But let’s start with what they’ve done already,” Jansing said. “The front door is now locked to the White House. There’s going to be a whole new series of procedures.”
