GB News Host Hastily Apologises After Guest’s Shockingly Lewd Comments About Carol Vorderman
GB News Tonight host Patrick Christys apologised to viewers Wednesday for sexist comments made by guest Charlie Mullins about celebrity and Royal Air Force ambassador Carol Vorderman.
Vorderman serves as an Air Cadet Ambassador for the RAF and was made Honorary Group Captain back in November 2014. However, this week she came under fire after reports that senior RAF bosses were questioning her suitability as an ambassador given her open criticism of Conservative government.
During a panel, featuring businessman Mullins and podcaster Lewis Oakley, the three discussed Vorderman’s political views. In closing, Christys sought comment on what he said was a remark made by former RAF pilot Tim Davies, who appeared in a previous segment of the show, questioning Vorderman’s “showbiz look” dress code.
Christys asked: “What about the controversial point Tim Davies made about potentially the way Carol, at times, maybe, dresses herself while she’s in these ambassadorial roles? Lewis, your thoughts on that? Some people might think that’s a bit unfair, while others might think it’s fair enough.”
To which Oakley responded: “I think she can dress however she wants. She looks great. Why not? She’s happy. She’s having a good time. Good for her.”
Mullin then said: “Does she represent the RAF good like that with her tits hanging out?”
Christys immediately interjected, signalling a need to halt the conversation: “Okay.”
“I didn’t see any of those pictures on the show, eh?” Oakley added.
“We can’t obviously say things like that,” Christys said.
Mullins continued: “What I’m trying to say is, based on certain pictures I’ve seen, does it represent the RAF?”
Oakley also continued: “She can dress however she wants. She’s great.”
Christys looked toward the camera and said: “Okay, I am just going to apologise if anyone was offended by that turn of phrase there, and we were drawing it to a close.”
Christys’ apology to viewers prompted the same from Mullins. “Sorry, I was just saying… I apologise for that.”
The exchange comes just one month after ex-GB News commentator Laurence Fox was sacked by the network over a misogynistic rant about female journalist Ava Evans. His comments, made to GB News presenter Dan Wootton, resulted in both their suspensions. Wootton remains suspended and under investigation by the network.
