‘Oh My God!’ Morning Joe Hosts Cringe Their Way Through a Recap of Trump’s Lindsey Graham Eulogy
Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski visibly and audibly cringed on Wednesday as the pair recapped President Donald Trump’s eulogy at late Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) funeral a day earlier.
It came after Scarborough and Brzezinski played a couple of clips of Trump’s speech at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday.
Introducing the sound bites, Scarborough said, “Well, let’s listen to more of the president’s eulogy. I’m sure there’s a part or two that’s more moving and complimentary and poignant about my friend Lindsey”:
TRUMP: No matter how heated things got in Washington, virtually everyone, Republican or Democrat, liked Lindsey. Well, not everybody, but it sounds good. Not everybody. He was a tough cookie, OK. I have to veer from this for a second. He was a tough cookie, as you remember.
TRUMP: As I remember, Lindsey and I did not exactly get off to the best of starts running against each other. Back in 2016, Lindsey said something rather nasty on his flight to becoming the next president of the United States. So naturally, I did something that I shouldn’t have done. I shared his personal cellphone number with the millions of people that happened to be watching that particular day as I made a speech, a very important speech. That was the beginning of a friendship, in a way. But it was Lindsey who had the last laugh, because while I blew up his phone all for one day, we became great friends. And Lindsey did not stop calling me for the next 10 years. It was not easy.
“Aye, aye,” Scarborough said, visibly irked and struggling to find words.
“Oh my God,” a stunned Brzezinski chimed in. “Is this a eulogy at a funeral?”
She then winced while holding a pen between her teeth as Scarborough hid his face in his hands in a clear display of discomfort before turning the segment over to Financial Times columnist Ed Luce.
