‘Stain On Humanity’: Journalist Stunned by ‘Apocalyptic’ Destruction in Gaza After Capturing Rare Footage

ITV international editor Emma Murphy laid out the scale of “apocalyptic” destruction she witnessed in Gaza as a “stain on humanity” after flouting Israel’s press restriction rules to capture rare aerial footage of the territory while on a Jordanian flight.

Journalists remain barred from entering Gaza independently, but Murphy captured what is believed to be the first foreign media footage to emerge from the area in months.

When CBC News correspondent Susan Ormiston boarded a Jordanian aid flight on Monday, she reported that her crew was blocked from filming Gaza from the air because of the Israeli restrictions.

The images captured by ITV, however, shot from 15,000 feet in the air, show a territory reduced to ruins — with entire districts flattened after Israeli bombardment — and the brutal impact of nearly two years of war.

“When we joined an airdrop last week, Israel also tried to restrict images from above being filmed or shown. Aid being dropped from this flight is to those who are trying to survive in this hell,” she said during her report for the network.

The journalist went on to highlight various locations from the rubble, including the Al Wafa Center for Elderly Care in Al-Zahraa City. Once surrounded by high-rise buildings, the center now stands alone. She also highlights a primary and secondary school, adding: “We can’t say what became of the pupils.”

Concluding the report, Murphy continued:

This landscape of destruction looks otherworldly, yet it’s not. It is this world, and what is happening may yet come to define one of its darkest eras, one that casts a stain on humanity, which will endure for generations.

The footage comes amid growing international concern over famine in Gaza, where Israel’s blockade has severely restricted access to food and aid.

Gaza’s Health Ministry claimed Monday that five more adults died of malnutrition in the past day, adding to a total of 180 reported starvation-related deaths since the war began, including 93 children.

The Israeli government continues to deny that starvation is occurring in Gaza.

Negotiations for a ceasefire with Hamas collapsed last month, with President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, blaming Hamas for “a lack of desire” to end the conflict.
