Stephen Colbert Blasts Lindsey Graham For Trying to Block Impeachment Trial Witnesses: ‘As it Says in the Hippocratic Oath: Snitches Get Stitches’

Stephen Colbert went after Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for discouraging the use of witnesses during Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial — pointing out that blocking witnesses is a classic villain move.

“It’s Groundhog Day, everybody, like every other day since March 12th,” Colbert quipped to open Tuesday’s Late Show. “But today’s actual Groundhog Day, which, for no apparent reason, America seeks weather prophecy from meteorological prognosticator Punxsutawney Phil.”

The host later addressed Trump’s second impeachment trial, mocking his legal team’s argument that the former president cannot be convicted by the Senate because he is no longer in office.

“Once you leave a job, you’re immune from prosecution?” Colbert asked, later joking, “Cannibalism? Nice try, your honor.”

The host played a clip of Trump’s impeachment lawyer David Schoen arguing against the use of news footage of the riots during the trial, claiming that it would stop the nation’s healing.

“Yes, healing comes from not providing any evidence,” Colbert said, mocking Schoen. “As it says in the Hippocratic Oath: ‘Snitches get stitches.”

Colbert then went after Graham for essentially making that same argument — who warned against the inclusion of any additional witnesses in the trial.

“You open up Pandora’s box if you call one witness,” Graham said, prompting Colbert to blast him for implying more information on the deadly attack on the Uniter States Capitol could be harmful in anyway.

Colbert brutally mocked Graham his aversion to the “slippery slope to information.”

“You could always tell who the good guys are. They’re the ones saying, ‘make sure there are no witnesses,’” Colbert joked, rubbing his hands together like a typical movie villain.
