Texas Republican Voter Torches Ken Paxton: ‘Disgrace to Humanity’

MS NOW spoke with two registered Republicans at a rally for Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico on Wednesday, including Dorothy Burton, who delivered a blistering assessment of the Republican nominee, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, calling him “trash” and a “disgrace to humanity.”

The network’s Chris Jansing, who attended the Dallas event, asked Burton, “Why not Ken Paxton?”

“Because he’s trash,” the registered Republican responded.

After Jansing noted that her word choice was “strong,” Burton responded, “That’s an honest word. He is a disgrace. He’s a disgrace to my party. He’s a disgrace to humanity. And he’s a disgrace.”

The MS NOW journalist also spoke with Alan Steelman, another Texas voter at the Talarico rally who actually served as a Republican congressman from the state between 1973 and 1977.

“Why are you here?” asked Jansing. “You were elected as a Republican, and I believe you are still a Republican.”

“Well, I am,” Steelman confirmed. “It is a bridge too far for many Texas Republicans to vote for any Democrat. However, there are times when party loyalty demands too much, and this is one of those times.”

Paxton’s campaign has had no shortage of scandals. He’s faced questions about alleged voter fraud, lavish vacations with what some call his “mistress,” his office’s plea deal with a child sex predator, and most recently, accusations of federal ethics law violations.

While President Donald Trump forked over $10 million from his super PAC to help the Republican candidate over the weekend, polling released at the end of August from Texas Southern University shows Talarico with a solid lead over Paxton in three congressional districts that the commander in chief carried by double digits in 2024.

Paxton is expected to speak at tonight’s Republican Midterm Convention. Trump and Vice President JD Vance will also deliver remarks.
