The 6 Best Political Cameos on Parks and Recreation
After seven season, NBC’s Parks and Recreation finally says goodbye with its series finale tonight at 10 p.m. Over the years, Amy Poehler’s Leslie Knope has, through her unconditionally-positive outlook on the public sector, managed to meet some of the biggest names in American politics.
Given the fact that the show’s final season takes place in the year 2017, it seems only logical that tonight will include an appearance by President Hillary Clinton. But before that, here’s a look back at some of the show’s best political cameos.
1. Joe Biden
For Leslie Knope, nothing will top the time she became nearly speechless after meeting her big crush, Vice President Joe Biden. “Don’t let anything happen to him, you understand me?” she told the Secret Service. “He is precious cargo.”
2. Newt Gingrich
Newt Gingrich just might be the Jerry Gergich on American politics, so it only makes sense that they would be mistaken for each other at an Iowa steak house.
3. Barbara Boxer and Olympia Snowe
Leave it to Leslie Knope to bring together two powerful female senators from opposite parties who also happen to be #4 and #26 on her list of amazing women.
4. John McCain
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has the distinction of being one major political figure Leslie met without even realizing it.
5. Michelle Obama
At the end of season six, when Leslie was contemplating a big career move, her potential employer enlisted First Lady Michelle Obama to help close the deal. “I hope you take the job,” the first lady advised. “Change happens one person at a time.”
6. Madeleine Albright
Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright enjoyed her cameo as Leslie’s BFF so much, she posted the clip to Facebook.
