Trump Trashes ABC to Reporter’s Face, Snipes That Broadcaster He’s Suing for $10B Is ‘Better’

President Donald Trump trashed ABC News to one of the network’s own journalists after mistakenly believing she identified herself as a BBC reporter, only to quip further that he likes the British broadcaster “better.”

The comments came during a brief exchange with reporters aboard Air Force One on Sunday after Trump asked a journalist to identify their news organization.

“Who are you with?” Trump asked.

“I’m with ABC News,” the reporter replied.

“BBC?” Trump responded before the reporter clarified they were with ABC.

“Oh, ABC. That’s worse,” he said. “I like BBC better than ABC actually.”

The off-the-cuff remark comes while the president remains embroiled in a $10 billion legal battle with the BBC, which he is suing over a 2024 documentary examining the events surrounding the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Trump’s lawsuit alleges the broadcaster used deceptively edited footage of his speech delivered before the attack, arguing the documentary falsely suggested he directly encouraged supporters to storm the Capitol.

The president’s legal team has claimed the edits were defamatory and caused significant reputational damage.

The BBC acknowledged an editing mistake in the documentary and previously issued an apology over the error, which also prompted several top-ranking executives to quit.

However, the broadcaster has rejected Trump’s defamation allegations and has said it intends to vigorously contest the lawsuit.

ABC itself has regularly been among the networks singled out by the president during press exchanges as guilty of unfair or biased coverage.

In 2024, the network agreed to pay Trump $15 million to settle a lawsuit over statements made by anchor George Stephanopoulos regarding Trump’s sexual abuse case involving E. Jean Carroll.

At the time, Stephanopoulos told Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), “You’ve endorsed Donald Trump for president. Judges and two separate juries have found him liable for rape and for defaming the victim of that rape.”

Trump was found civilly liable for sexual abuse, not rape, in 2023 and ordered to pay Carroll millions of dollars. Last month, he paid her a sum of $5.6 million.
