Biden Spox Scolds Fox Reporter at Briefing Over Question About ‘Intelligence Failure’
Biden NSC spokesman John Kirby scolded Fox News White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich over a question about the “Intelligence failure” that allowed Hamas to execute its terrorist attack on Israel.
Kirby joined White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre at Tuesday’s White House press briefing, during which the subject of the situation in Israel following the coordinated terrorist assault on Israel Saturday morning was the dominant topic.
Heinrich drew a scowl and a flag from Kirby by asking him to assign blame for the lapse in intelligence-gathering that led to the attacks:
JACQUI HEINRICH: John. This was a massive intelligence failure. Who bears responsibility for that?
ADM. JOHN KIRBY: You know something, Jacki? There’s going to come a time when it’s appropriate for us to take a look back retrospectively and see what the intel pictures showed us or didn’t show us whether there’s any gaps that need to be closed. There’s going to be a time for that. And I suspect that our Israeli counterparts will do the same thing. Now’s not that time! It’s just not that time.
HEINRICH: Can you speak to the reports that Israel was warned by Egypt?
KIRBY: I can’t.
HEINRICH: McCaul from foreign affairs made that allegation this morning saying that that was something that members were told in, on the intel or on the Foreign Affairs Committee. So has that been discussed at all, or is that something you’re looking into?
KIRBY: I can’t speak to specific intelligence matters. Again, there will be a time to look back at this, as we always do, and we will. Right now, we’re sharpening the intelligence gathering and cooperation and sharing with Israel, as we should, since they’re involved in active operations and we’re making sure that they get the tools they need.
