‘You Scared You’ll Be Sent To Prison?’ Reporter Drops Brutal Questions On Trump At Morning Trial Rant
A reporter shouted brutal questions about going to prison as former President Donald Trump entered the courthouse for his morning rant, and as he left to go into the courtroom.
The jury continued deliberating the 34 felony counts against Trump in the Stormy Daniels hush money-election interference trial Thursday in New York, and as they have every day of the trial, pool cameras covered every instant of the world outside the courtroom, including Trump’s emergence from Trump Tower into his motorcade, the ride to the courthouse, and the scene outside the courtroom.
Trump showed up to give his customary rant before going into court — a ritual he skipped Wednesday.
This time, he was greeted by one reporter who bookended the familiar morning ramble with a pair of questions about the prospect of going to prison:
REPORTER: Mr. Trump, why do you think the trial was rigged?
REPORTER: Mr. Trump, are you concerned about going to prison?
DONALD TRUMP: Thank you very much. Here we go again. Five weeks I’ve been here, I’m gagged! I’d like to answer all of your questions, they are easy questions to answer, but I’m gagged, so I can talk as much as I would like to about this ridiculous case.
As Judge Juan Merchan pointed out to the jury after an explosive exchange with Trump’s attorneys this week, prison is not a requirement under these charges, but it’s a possibility:
Jurors, before we hear the People’s summation, there is an instruction that I wanted to give you.
During the Defense summation, you heard Mr. Blanche asking, in substance, that you not send the defendant to prison.
That comment was improper, and you must disregard it.
In your deliberations you may not discuss, consider, or even speculate about matters relating to sentence or punishment.
If there is a verdict of guilty, it will be my responsibility to impose an appropriate sentence.
A prison sentence is not required for the charges in this case in the event of a guilty verdict.
…
And we were treated very, very badly. And the outside world is watching, and the outside world is just not going to bring their business to New York.
And that’s going to cost the city trillions and the state trillions and trillions of dollars. Businesses are leaving and people are fleeing.
So you can see the quotes yourself, and thank you all very much, will come in later on in the evening. But we’ll be here, it looks like a long time. Thank you.
REPORTER: Sir, are you scared you’re going to be sent to jail? What do you think of the jury so far?
REPORTER: Do you trust the jury?
