21-Year-Old Elian Gonzalez Speaks Out, Would Like to Return to the U.S.
Remember Elian Gonzalez? You know, the 6-year-old Cuban boy whose entrance into the United States threw the entire country into a tizzy and led to that infamous moment when federal agents took him and sent him back to his father in Cuba?
Well, for the first time in years, Gonzalez is publicly speaking out about that ordeal and what his life has been like since then.
Gonzalez spoke exclusively with ABC News’ Jim Avila, and opened up about his mother dying while trying to get him to America. He said, “I believe that if today she is not here with me it is because she fought until the very last minute for me to survive. After giving life to me, I believe she was the one who saved me. She was the one who gave life back to me at a time of danger.”
But when asked where he would like to go if he had his pick, Gonzalez said he’d visit America again. “I want my time to give love to the American people,” he said.
