Ben Affleck Comes to Meryl Streep’s Defense: ‘If There’s One Thing That We Know Is True…’

It may not be a total surprise to see other Hollywood A-Listers comes to the defense of Meryl Streep in light of her controversial acceptance speech Sunday night at the Golden Globes; after all, given the reactions from other elites in the room that night, her anti-Trump commentary seemed to be largely appreciated and embraced.

But that didn’t stop Ben Affleck — whose brother Casey took home an acting Golden Glove for his turn in Manchester By The Sea — from offering his two cents on Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday. Affleck invoked Streep’s name on his own shortly after taking a seat, telling host Jimmy Kimmel, “If there’s one thing we know is true, it’s that Meryl Streep is NOT overrated!”

He further joked that calling Streep “overrated” is akin to calling Gandhi “a terrible leader.” “But pick a better shot rather than the person whose photograph actually accompanies ‘Great Actress’ in the Encyclopedia,” Affleck continued telling Kimmel.

Affleck’s comment was in direct response to the President-elect, who predictably took to Twitter Monday morning to harangue the legendary actress for her on-stage rhetoric.
