3 Arrested at Entrance to New York City’s Holland Tunnel With Weapons Cache

Law enforcement arrested three people Tuesday who were found at the New Jersey entrance to the Holland Tunnel with a heavy weapons cache.

Reports are indicating that it was a traffic stop by police that led to the discovery of the weapons. According to NBC 4 New York, “multiple loaded guns, rifles and ballistic vests,” were all discovered when the police pulled over a vehicle for having a cracked windshield.

Two men in their 50s and a female in her 20s likely coming from Pennsylvania were in the car at the time of the stop around 7:40 a.m. ET this morning. According to NBC 4:

The guns seized included long-range weapons as well as handguns. A camouflage helmet with what appeared to be night goggles was also recovered.

Two senior law enforcement officials say the three suspects are so-called “gun enthusiasts” and have no nexus to terror. There is no known threat.

The Holland Tunnel is one of the busiest roads for commuters driving into Manhattan from New Jersey, servicing about 100,000 vehicles per day.

Watch the above report from NBC’s Pei-Sze Cheng. The New York Daily News reported that a search by police revealed, “five pistols, two rifles (including a shotgun and what resembles an assault rifle), four knives, 10 loaded clips of ammunition, and a military-grade helmet.” A source also indicates that the weapons were, “locked and loaded.” One of the gun clips appears to have the words, “United We Stand” written on it, and another emblazoned with the word “America.”

The situation is currently under investigation by the Joint Terrorism Task Force.
