Carly Fiorina on Trump’s Dismissiveness to Women: ‘He Views Women as Something to be Used’
Former Hewlett-Packard CEO and 2016 Republican candidate Carly Fiorina has accused President Donald Trump and the GOP of dismissing women by treating them as “something to be used” for political gain.
In an interview with Zainab Salbi for Yahoo! News‘ Through Her Eyes, Fiorina spoke of Trump’s treatment of women by calling it “a mystery” to her. Even though she gave Trump credit for appointing women to several high-ranking jobs in the government, Fiorina also remarked that “he’s so routinely dismissive of women, the way he talks about women.”
“I think he views women as something to be used, which is a shame,” Fiorina said. “On the other hand, I think he views people as something to be used.”
Many of Trump’s old conservative opponents fell in line behind him after 2016, but Fiorina has refused to do so ever since their bruising rivalry in the primaries. During the election, Trump attacked Fiorina by going after her physical appearance, so she and other critics have held up that moment as proof of his sexist attitude towards women.
Fiorina went on in the interview by expressing her view that “the Republican Party routinely dismisses and diminishes women.” While she didn’t let Democrats off the hook for their politicizations of women, Fiorina argued that women in Congress are not included enough in conservative deliberations, and that “if you look at the women senators in the Republican Party, they’re pretty much discounted until their vote is needed. That’s not OK.”
