MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow took to the air late Wednesday night with a monologue referencing the Watergate hearings–which began exactly 44 years ago to the day–and in subsequent segments never let up with the obvious implications of that reference: looming disaster for President Trump.
In one such segment, Maddow spoke with revered former CBS anchor Dan Rather —who did not mince words in describing the events unfolding around the Trump presidency.
Searching for a big picture narrative, Rather said:
This is the day. Up until today, President Trump has had the ability to control almost every news cycle. From this day forward, he no longer has control.
And, instead, if you will, [instead] of being the hunter, he becomes the hunted. And, I think, you know, that’s extremely important to keep in mind: from here on out…he can’t control it.’
