Democratic Congressman Mike Honda called on Fox News’ Bob Beckel to be fired from Fox News after using the word “Chinamen” on-air last week. After Beckel’s apology yesterday, however, Honda has backed off a bit…
Honda condemned Beckel’s comment alongside California State Senator Ted Lieu, who rebuked Beckel’s “racist, xenophobic comments.” Beckel apologized on The Five Monday for using the word, but refused to apologize for his overall critique of the Chinese government.
In a statement to Talking Points Memo, Honda said he’s backing off for now, but only if Beckel watches what he says in the future:
“If he refrains from using derogatory and racist terms, and engages in an informed discussion of the issues, then he should keep his job… If he continues to use slurs like these, however, then Fox News should end his employment.”
