Democratic Party Bars Two Male Delegates In Order to Achieve Gender Parity
The Democratic Party has barred two elected delegates from Vermont from attending the DNC because they happen to be male. It’s part of an effort to achieve gender balance, the AP reported Thursday.
According to the AP, the national Democratic party ordered Vermont party to swap out State Sen. Tim Ashe and Ken Dean and replace them with women.
The AP writes: “Dean and Ashe were elected as delegates on June 11. But on July 5, the state party was ordered to remove them and replace them with women, which it has done. Both Ashe and Dean – as well as the women replacing them – support Sen. Bernie Sanders.”
Dean plans to file a formal complaint with the DNC’s credentials committee; Ashe does not.
