Hillary Backs Syria Strike, But Says It ‘Needs to Be Followed By a Broader Strategy’

One day after President Donald Trump followed through on her suggestion to launch a missile strike against a Syrian air field, Hillary Clinton backed her former election rival’s military action.

Speaking to a group working to elect Texas Democratic women in Houston, the former Secretary of State admitted that “Syria’s been a wicked problem for a long, long time.” In backing the president’s strike, she added that other steps must follow.

“The action taken last night needs to be followed by a broader strategy to end Syria’s civil war,” Clinton said. She added, “I hope this administration will move forward in a way that is both strategic and consistent with our values.”

Clinton went on to denounced the Trump administration’s continued efforts to ban Syrian refugees and residents of five other Muslim-majority countries:

“I also hope that they will recognize that we cannot speak in one breath of protecting Syrian babies, and in the next, close America’s doors to them.”
