Radio host Hugh Hewitt today asked Donald Trump a question that, presumably, many would like to ask him: are you just trolling? See, time and time again, Trump has jumped into political waters and boasted about not only how he might run for president, but how he would win and be the best possible choice if he won.
But he’s never quite followed through. In fact, in 2011, Trump announced at the NBC upfronts, in talking about The Apprentice, that he is not running for the presidency and sticking with the money-making show. This fueled some speculation that Trump just trolls to get attention for himself, his show, and his various enterprises.
So today, Hewitt said, “Some people say you troll the Republican Party to promote your various shows, buildings, golf courses. How do you respond to that?”
Trump didn’t directly answer the question at first, talking mostly about how disappointed he is in some Republicans and bragging about his social media audience. Hewitt again asked if he’s just in the political game for self-promotion.
Here’s Trump’s answer:
“No, I don’t need that. I get more publicity than any human being should want. I don’t seek it. I don’t even have PR people. I mean, they just call, for some reason, I’ve always had a lot of press.”
Hewitt also pressed Trump a bit on whether he’d release his tax returns ahead of a potential 2016 run.
