It’s Official: Everyone Hates Team USA’s Olympic Uniforms Designed by Ralph Lauren

Martha’s Vineyard called and it wants its short shorts and Palatine stripes back, please.

That’s more or less the gist of criticism that many are lobbying against Ralph Lauren in the day since the United States athletes debuted their new look on Thursday’s TODAY Show. As Mediaite’s Lindsey Ellefson noted in this space yesterday, “It has a sort of ‘private school’ feel, no?” Ryan Lochte, Haley Anderson, and Jordan Burroughs all modeled off their new looks proudly:

But you know who won’t be so proud when the athletes don these at the Rio games this summer? The large percentage of the 330 million Americans who took to social media to convey their disgust and laughable rebuke at the ZackMorris-late-for-class-at-Bayside look.

At the very least, indications seems to be that the uniforms will only be worn during the closing ceremonies. If that’s the case, I think that many Americans will be likely to forgive the faux pas as long as those American athletes are also dripping in a healthy amount of gold to accent the stripes.
