Kim Davis Fan and NC Mayoral Candidate: ‘What’s Wrong with Eradicating Homosexuals?’
A mayoral candidate in Kings Mountain, N.C., who proudly considers himself a big fan of Kim Davis has stated his intent to jail homosexuals once elected to office.
According to the Kings Mountain Herald, Eugene Holmes, a 77-year-old Korean War veteran, said his administration in the small Charlotte suburb “would do just like Mrs. Davis did in Kentucky.” The mayoral candidate doesn’t seem to mind (or know) that his town doesn’t actually have the offices to issue marriage licenses, but no matter.
What really piqued Raw Story and other news outlet’s interests, however, was what Holmes had to say about homosexuals in the good ol’ state of North Carolina. For not only does he agree with Davis’ actions (and, by extension, disagree with Obergefell v. Hodges), but he thinks the state should take things a step further.
“If you elect me, I’ll uphold the law of the state of North Carolina,” he said. “I would get the D.A. to swear out a warrant on any man who says he’s gay. Sodomy is a crime, a felony in the state of North Carolina.”
When pressed further on the matter, Holmes exclaimed: “What’s wrong with eradicating homosexuals? We should jail them, throw them all in jail!”
As the Shelby Star notes, Holmes was arrested in March for interrupting services at the Family Worship Center in Kings Mountain. He shouted “inflammatory and degrading remarks about homosexuals” and refused to leave when asked to. In a letter he submitted to the paper at the time, Holmes defended his actions and claimed he was trying to make a citizen’s arrest.
Despite all the hoopla, it seems Holmes’ heart isn’t really set on becoming the mayor of Kings Mountain.
“I don’t want to be mayor no more than I want to fly,” he said. “I don’t know about my chances in this thing. I’m a newcomer — and I don’t give one hoot about politicians.”
