North Korea Claims New Long-Range Missile Can Carry a Hydrogen Bomb

North Korean state media is claiming that they have successfully created a “thermonuclear hydrogen bomb” which they are capable of transporting via intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

According to Reuters, KCNA talked about the weapon by describing its “great destructive power which can be detonated even at high altitudes for super-powerful EMP (electromagnetic pulse) attack.” Kim Jong Un reportedly supervised the bomb while it was loaded into an ICBM, and the article states the new projectile would allow the country to “produce powerful nuclear weapons as many as it wants.”

As of yet, neither the Pentagon nor the Defense Department have commented on the matter.

North Korea’s announcement comes after they made a new series of provocations that caused concern among the international community. The rogue nation fired a missile that passed through Japanese airspace this week, which drew condemnations from the Trump Administration.
