The Daily News reports that the North Korean women’s Olympic soccer team refused to take the field for its first match versus Colombia this afternoon due to an issue “behind the scenes,” which turned out to be the wrong Korean flag being displayed on the Olympic scoreboard.
Apparently the team took issue with the fact that the South Korean flag was being displayed on the scoreboard prior to the start of warm-ups. The scoreboard has since been corrected.
The team also reportedly took issue with a South Korean flag being flown at the stadium. That will not change, however, since flags for all teams participating in the men’s and women’s soccer tournaments are flown above the park.
The teams eventually took the field for warm-ups 45 minutes after the match was scheduled to begin.
