Orrin Hatch Apologizes for Criticizing McCain Over Funeral Request: ‘I Shouldn’t Have Said Anything’

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) regrets what he said about Sen. John McCain‘s (R-AZ) “ridiculous” request for President Trump to not attend his eventual funeral.

McCain’s relationship with Trump is…complicated to say the very least. And as the Arizona senator continues his battle with brain cancer, he has made it clear that he doesn’t want the president to be there when he’s laid to rest. When asked about this yesterday, Hatch said its McCain’s choice, but the decision was “ridiculous” and he suggested McCain should think about changing his mind.

Meghan McCain reacted on her father’s behalf today on The View, saying Hatch needs to “chill out,” and his comments were “insensitive” and “not appreciated at this moment.” Today, Hatch told Washington Post that he realizes he was out of line, and he has sent McCain an apologetic letter

“I agree with [Meghan],” said Hatch “I shouldn’t have said anything yesterday. I agree a hundred percent with her.”
