Oscars Tourist ‘Gary From Chicago’ Was Just Released From Prison Three Days Earlier
Everyone was thrown for a loop Sunday during the Oscars due, largely in part, to the “Best Picture” mix between La La Land and Moonlight. While most of us have recovered from that kerfuffle, new information has come up regarding of the the night’s unexpected breakout stars that may turn some heads.
Oscar host Jimmy Kimmel led a group of unsuspecting tourists into the Dolby Theater on Sunday, where he surprised them all with a chance to mix and mingle with the Hollywood VIPs in the audience. One of those tourists was Gary Alan Coe (aka ‘Gary From Chicago’), who became an instant viral sensation as he introduced himself to multiple celebrities.
After an interview with him, ABC 7 said that just three days before the Oscars, Coe was released from a 22 year prison sentence over multiple felony charges in California.
Coe said he is hopeful about his future, due to turning to religion and meeting his fiancé Vickie Vines while he was serving his sentence:
Change is possible. It’s a sad day to be in prison for 20 years and not be able to be a dad, granddad to your children. You know what my son told me today, man, and I almost come to tears. He said he’s proud of me. So to hear your children say that they’re proud of me means the world to me.
Vines was with Coe at the Oscars, and she became a meme of her own due to her reaction to meeting Ryan Gosling.
