Paula Deen Responds To Lawsuit, Denies Racism Allegations
Yesterday, we told you about a lawsuit launched against celebrity chef Paul Deen and her brother, Bubba Hiers, alleging that the two had contributed to a hostile work environment by condoning sexual harassment and racism.
Today, FoxNews.com is reporting that Deen’s attorneys have responded to the allegations against their client, saying that former restaurant manager Lisa Jackson is making false claims after Deen refused to pay for her silence.
In a recently-released statement, the law firm representing Deen shares that Jackson threatened to “ruin” the chef and restaurant owner’s reputation:
She has made baseless, inflammatory allegations, threatening to go to the press and ruin Paula Deen’s reputation and the reputation of her businesses unless we paid her a large sum of money. We refused to bow to that kind of pressure and refused to pay money to address false claims.
Jackson’s lawsuit makes various claims about Hiers’ inappropriate workplace behavior, including alleged instances of sexual harassment and one instance of spitting in Jackson’s face. In addition, Jackson alleges that Deen made a racist comment using the “n-word.”
