On Tuesday afternoon, progressive radio host Thom Hartmann responded to Sen. Ted Cruz‘s “filibuster” speech by declaring that the GOP is rife with “suicide bombers” like the Texan senator, who is using “Taliban-style” tactics to get his way on defunding Obamacare.
“The Republican party has become the party of suicide bombers,” Hartmann said after playing a brief clip of Cruz’s “speechifying” on the House floor. “I mean, you go back to January 20th, 2009, the day Obama was first inaugurated. 14 Republicans got together […] and hatched a plan to sabotage the Obama presidency at every opportunity no matter how much damage it would do to the American people.”
Hartmann believes Cruz’s attempt to defund Obamacare is a continuation of that Republican mindset. Quoting Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) saying, in 2009, that the House GOP can learn from Taliban insurgency tactics on disrupting political processes, Hartmann saw parallels to today:
“There’s a government shutdown seven days away. There’s no chance that the Democrats are going to agree to defund Obamacare, but Ted Cruz is still leading his Taliban-style suicide-bomber charge to shut down the government if Obamacare isn’t defunded.”
